Targeting

Restrict an offer by country, device, OS, region, city, ISP, connection, browser, language, IP range, proxy/datacenter, day-parting and click parameters.

Targeting decides which clicks may reach an offer. Configure it on the offer's Targeting tab and click Save targeting. Clicks that fail targeting go to the fallback chain with reason targeting (or to a matching fail route).

All values are detected at click time from the visitor's IP address (country, region, city, ISP, datacenter) and request headers (user agent, Accept-Language).

Countries#

FieldBehaviour
Allowed countriesWhen set, only these countries pass. Clicks whose country is unknown are blocked too.
Blocked countriesThese countries never pass.

The allow list takes precedence: with allowed countries set, everything else is blocked.

Devices & operating systems#

FieldValues
Device typesDesktop, Mobile, Tablet
Operating systemsAndroid, iOS, Windows, macOS, Linux, Chrome OS, HarmonyOS, KaiOS, Tizen, webOS, Windows Phone

Empty = any. Detected from the visitor's user agent (and client hints when sent).

Extended targeting#

The following sections apply to affiliate links, smart links and server-side clicks (/clk: IP-based checks use the forwarded ip).

Regions & cities#

Regions / states and Cities: English names as resolved from the visitor's IP, e.g. "California", "Mumbai". Case-insensitive. A click from an unknown region or city fails a non-empty list.

Network#

FieldBehaviour
ISPs / carriersMatches part of the network operator's name, e.g. jio, vodafone (case-insensitive substring).
Connection typeAny, Residential / mobile or Datacenter / hosting (from the IP's network).
Allowed IP rangesAddresses or CIDR ranges, one per line, e.g. 203.0.113.0/24. When set, only these pass.
Blocked IP rangesAddresses or CIDR ranges that never pass, e.g. 198.51.100.7.
Block proxied requestsRefuses requests that arrived through a proxy the platform does not operate (forwarding headers such as Via or X-Forwarded-For).
Block datacenter IPsRefuses IPs of hosting providers.

Browsers & languages#

  • Browsers: Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, Samsung Internet, Opera, UC Browser, Yandex Browser, Facebook in-app, Instagram in-app.
  • Languages: from the first Accept-Language entry. en matches en-US, en-IN…; pt-br matches only Brazilian Portuguese.

Day-parting#

Pick weekdays and hours. Clicks outside them go to the fallback. The time zone is the workspace zone unless you enter another one (IANA name, e.g. Asia/Kolkata) in the time-zone field.

Parameter filters#

Require or refuse values of any click parameter: sub1…sub5, source_id, or a custom parameter name from the link (e.g. placement). Operators: is, is not, contains, does not contain, begins with. Values are compared case-insensitively. "is", "contains" and "begins with" never match a missing value.

Example: only accept sub3 beginning with search-:

ParameterOperatorValues
sub3begins withsearch-

Order of checks#

For an affiliate or smart-link click the tracker first applies forwarding rules, then checks, in order: workspace active → offer active (and its advertiser not paused or inactive) → partner approved → countries/devices/OS → offer schedule → offer terms accepted → extended targeting (regions, cities, ISP, connection, browser, language, IP, proxy, datacenter, day-parting, parameters) → traffic controls → the partner's forced traffic-source template (/r and /click only) → click caps → hourly click cap → duplicate-click setting. The first failure decides the reason recorded on the click. Server-side clicks (/clk) run the same chain without forwarding rules and the forced template.

Test a click#

The Test a click box on the tab shows what would happen to a click with a chosen Country (or Unknown), Device and operating system — including unsaved changes — before you save.

Targeting a landing page instead of the offer#

To send some countries to a localized page rather than blocking them, use Landing pages with Countries. To send off-target clicks to another offer, use a fail route for the reason "Targeting failed".

Smart-link rules have their own country, device and OS conditions, which choose an offer. The chosen offer's targeting still applies afterwards — in Priority waterfall mode an offer whose targeting excludes the click is passed over and the next one tried. See Smart links.
