Google Ads

Transparent click tracking for Google Ads

Google allows third-party click trackers in tracking templates only when they are transparent: the next hop is visible in the URL and the tracker follows it.

TrackCrown is built around that rule — one redirect, to exactly the url= you pass, on every link.

How it works

One click, one hop, the destination you declared

Every /c/ link — and every /r/ or /s/ link that carries url= — behaves the same way, for every visitor, country and device.

Diagram: a Google Ads click requests the tracking template on trackcrown.com; the server checks that the url parameter is an allowed destination, records the click and answers with one 302 redirect to exactly that URL. A destination that is not allowed receives a 403 error page.

Tracking template

Paste one template at account, campaign or ad-group level

Google replaces {lpurl} with the escaped final URL and the other tokens with ValueTrack values. force_transparent=true is accepted as the secondary parameter and url is always last.

  • Replace your-link-key with your workspace slug, an offer code, or offer plus partner code — the panel's template builder fills it in.
  • Test any link with the built-in transparency tester before it goes live.
  • Allowlist your landing-page hostnames once per workspace or per offer.

The rules

What transparent means in practice

Google's requirements for third-party click trackers, and the behaviour we leave out of the product on purpose.

What a transparent tracker does

  • Puts the immediate next hop in a visible query parameter.
  • Follows that parameter instead of a destination stored on the server.
  • Answers with one redirect — HTTP to HTTPS on the same URL is the only extra step Google allows.
  • Adds only its own click-ID parameter.
  • Behaves the same on every URL path used in your ads.

What TrackCrown never does

  • Choose a different destination for bots, reviewers, countries or devices.
  • Chain through additional, unnamed tracking hops.
  • Append UTM tags or partner parameters after the fact.
  • Apply caps, targeting or paused status to a link that carries url= — they are recorded for reporting only.
  • Require cookies to complete the redirect.

Parallel tracking

The landing page loads first, measurement follows

With parallel tracking, Google sends the visitor straight to your final URL while the browser requests the tracking template in the background. Our redirect is answered silently and the click is recorded with its gclid.

Timeline: after the ad click the browser loads the final URL straight away; in parallel it requests the tracking template in the background, where the click is recorded and our redirect is answered. The landing-page SDK then keeps the gclid for on-site conversions.

No added latency

Visitors never wait for the tracker; the landing page starts loading on the click.

Join by gclid

The landing-page SDK recovers the click by gclid, so on-site conversions attribute to the right campaign.

Nested trackers

If your template chains to another tracker, Google requires every tracker in the chain to be certified — the template builder shows it.

ValueTrack

Every Google parameter, mapped

ValueTrack parameters in your template land in dedicated report dimensions — campaign, ad group, ad, keyword, placement and location — so Google campaigns sit next to partner traffic in the same reports.

Offline conversions

Send conversions back to Google Ads

Create a feed, map offers and events to Google conversion actions, choose the value — revenue, payout or sale amount — and give Google the HTTPS URL for scheduled uploads.

  1. 1

    Create a feed

Each feed has its own secret HTTPS URL that you can pause at any time.

  2. 2

    Map events to conversion actions

Matched by the gclid, gbraid or wbraid captured at click time; lookback up to 90 days, pending conversions optional.

  3. 3

Let Google fetch it on a schedule

Times are written in your workspace timezone, declared in the file header.

Certification

Certification status, domain by domain

Google certifies tracking domains, not companies. Web Cue LLC operates the domains listed here and is the service provider responsible for them.

  1. Stage 1: Built to the requirements

Every link that carries url= answers with one redirect to exactly that destination, on every path.

  2. Stage 2: Application under review

The domain's operator has applied and Google is reviewing it.

  3. Stage 3: Certified by Google

Google has certified the domain as a transparent click tracker.
