Pre-landers

Put an advertorial, quiz or listicle in front of an offer with prl=1 and continue to the offer with prelander.js, keeping the first click ID.

A pre-lander is a page shown before the offer — an advertorial, a quiz, a listicle or an offer wall. The visitor clicks a call-to-action (CTA) on it and only then reaches the offer. TrackCrown tracks both steps: the pre-lander visit is the first click, the CTA is a second affiliate click that records which pre-lander click it came from.

1. Add the pre-lander to the offer#

  1. Open the offer, tab Landing pages, click Add landing page.
  2. Set Type to Pre-lander ("Opened with prl=1; its CTA continues to the offer").
  3. URL: the pre-lander page with the click ID and partner in the query, for example:
URL
https://pages.example.com/advertorial?click_id={click_id}&offer={offer_code}&aff={aff_code}&sub1={sub1}
  1. Optional: Countries and Partners restrict who sees this pre-lander. Weight has no effect on pre-landers.
  2. Save and note the ID.

2. Send traffic with prl=1#

Add prl=1 (or prl=true) to the affiliate link:

URL
https://trackcrown.com/r/OFFERCODE/PARTNERCODE?prl=1&sub1=native-campaign

The tracker then sends the click to:

  • the pre-lander given by url_id=<id> if it is an eligible pre-lander of the offer, otherwise
  • the first eligible pre-lander (lowest ID; pre-landers are not weighted), otherwise
  • the normal landing-page / destination choice, when no pre-lander is eligible.

All usual checks (status, approval, targeting, caps…) run on this first click.

3. Wire the CTA with prelander.js#

Add the helper script from your tracking domain to the pre-lander page and mark the CTA elements:

HTML
<script src="https://trackcrown.com/prelander.js" data-offer="OFFERCODE" data-aff="AFFCODE"></script>

<a href="#" data-atk-cta>Check your rate now</a>
<button class="atk-cta">Continue</button>

The script:

  1. Reads the click ID from the page URL (click_id, cid or transaction_id).
  2. Builds https://<tracking domain>/r/<offer>/<aff>?parent_click=<click id> plus sub1…sub5 and source_id copied from the page URL.
  3. Sets it as the href of every element with data-atk-cta or class atk-cta (for non-links, it navigates on click).

data-offer and data-aff are optional when the page URL carries offer / offer_code and aff / aff_code. The script does nothing if the offer or partner code is missing, and it never touches transparent (url=) links.

What gets recorded#

StepClickNotes
Visitor opens the partner link with prl=1Click ADestination = pre-lander; landing page ID recorded.
Visitor clicks the CTAClick BAn ordinary affiliate click to the offer's landing page or destination; parent_click=<A> is stored in its extra parameters.

The advertiser receives click B's ID through {click_id} in the offer destination, so conversions attribute to click B (same offer and partner). Compare pre-lander clicks with CTA clicks in reports to measure the pre-lander's click-through rate.

Tips#

  • Keep pre-lander hosts on your allowlist if you also run them from Google Ads; landing-page hosts are added to the offer's transparent allowlist automatically.
  • Use the Preview URL field so partners can look at the pre-lander without generating clicks.
  • To A/B test two pre-landers, pin each with url_id= on separate partner links (pre-landers are not split by weight).
