Caps & pacing

Limit clicks, conversions, payout and revenue per offer, per partner, per offer group and per advertiser budget — daily, weekly, monthly, total and hourly — and watch pacing.

Caps stop an offer (or one partner on it) once a limit is reached. Set them on the offer's Caps tab; per-partner caps on the Affiliates tab; shared caps and budgets under Offer groups & budgets (https://app.trackcrown.com/app/offers/groups).

Every kind of cap#

Empty fields mean unlimited.

Periods#

  • Daily, weekly and monthly caps are calendar periods in the workspace time zone. Weeks start on Monday.
  • Total caps never reset.
  • Hourly caps use the clock hour in UTC.
  • Counters keep counting even without a limit, so a cap added mid-day already knows today's usage.

What happens at the limit#

MetricAffiliate and smart linksTransparent links (url=)Server-side clicks (/clk)
ClicksSent to the fallback chain (reason cap), or a fail route; a smart link in Priority waterfall mode passes over a capped offerStill redirect to url=; flagged cap_overerror_code 7 "click cap reached" (also the hourly cap)
Conversions, payout, revenue, budgetConversion stored as rejected with reason cap_exceeded; no partner postbacksamesame

Only approved and pending conversions count towards conversion caps. Click caps count clicks that would otherwise reach the offer; clicks already refused for another reason (paused, targeting…) do not use up the cap. Signed compliance-probe clicks never count.

Set offer caps#

  1. Open the offer, tab Caps. Offer caps has a row per metric (Clicks — "Affiliate & smart-link clicks"; Conversions — "Recorded conversions"; Payout — "Amount in <currency>") and a field per period.
  2. Enter limits; leave others empty.
  3. Save. A bar under each field shows current usage; it turns amber at 80 % and red when reached.

If live counters cannot be read, the page says "Live counters could not be read right now. Limits can still be saved."

Per-affiliate caps#

  1. Offer → Affiliates tab → row menu → Caps. The sheet "Caps for <partner>" has the same grid.
  2. Save. A click must pass both the partner's cap and the offer cap.

More caps: revenue, hourly and soft caps#

On the offer's Caps tab, card More caps:

FieldNotes
Revenue caps (<currency>) — Daily, Weekly, Monthly, TotalLimits the advertiser's spend on this offer.
Clicks per hourAffiliate and smart links, UTC clock hour.
Conversions per hourUTC clock hour.
Soft caps (alert only)Keep sending traffic and accepting conversions over the limits. Over-limit conversions are flagged soft_cap in their parameters for review; alerts still fire.

Offer groups (shared caps)#

Use a group when several offers share one deal, e.g. "500 leads a day across all GEOs".

  1. Open Offer groups & budgets, click to create a group (sheet New offer group): Name, optional Advertiser, and Group caps for Conversions, Payout and Revenue per period.
  2. Add offers to the group on each offer's Advanced tab → Partner-facing details → Offer group.

Group caps count conversions, payout and revenue of all offers in the group together. Group caps have no click limit.

Advertiser budgets#

Under Advertiser budgets, enter a budget per advertiser (in its currency). Once the advertiser's revenue across all its offers reaches the budget, further conversions are rejected (cap_exceeded) unless the offer uses soft caps. The table shows how much is spent.

Pacing and alerts#

  • Reporting → Caps pacing (https://app.trackcrown.com/app/reports/caps) lists caps with current usage.
  • When a cap reaches 90 % and 100 %, a notification is sent once per period (in-app and e-mail per your notification preferences).
  • Schedule cap changes (e.g. raise the cap on Friday) under Automation → Scheduled changes with the "Caps" action.
  • Bulk-set daily click and conversion caps for up to 100 offers with Bulk edit on the offer list (Bulk edit & templates).
