Coupons

Credit sales to a partner by coupon code without a tracked click — create and import codes, send coupon_code on the postback, and choose whether codes beat clicks.

Coupon codes credit orders to a partner even when there was no tracked click — typical for influencers, podcasts and coupon sites. The advertiser sends the code that was used at checkout with the conversion postback; TrackCrown looks up which partner owns the code.

Manage codes under Partners → Coupons (https://app.trackcrown.com/app/coupons). Partners see their own codes in the partner portal under Coupons ("My coupons").

Create a coupon#

  1. Click New coupon.
  2. Fill in:
FieldNotes
CodeRequired, up to 64 characters: letters, digits, dot, dash, underscore. Case-insensitive (spring10 = SPRING10). Unique per workspace.
PartnerRequired. The partner credited for orders using this code.
OfferOptional. Empty = valid on every offer; the postback must then name the offer with offer_id=.
Valid from / Valid untilOptional validity window.
NotesInternal notes.
  1. Save. New coupons are active.

Use the bulk actions Activate, Pause and Delete on selected codes. Paused coupons do not attribute.

Import codes from CSV#

Click Import CSV to open Import coupons from CSV and paste rows with a header:

CSV
code,affiliate_code,offer_code
SPRING10,partner1,offer01
PODCAST20,partner7,

affiliate_code and offer_code are the public codes of the partner and the offer; leave offer_code empty for a coupon valid on every offer.

Click Preview first: it reports valid rows and lists problems per line (rows with problems are skipped). Then click Import N coupons. Codes that already exist are updated.

Report a conversion with a coupon#

The advertiser adds coupon_code= (or coupon=) to the postback:

URL
https://trackcrown.com/pb?offer_id=OFFERCODE&coupon_code=SPRING10&amount=59.00&txid=ORDER-2201&token=ADVERTISER_TOKEN
  • Without a click ID, offer_id is required unless the coupon itself is tied to one offer.
  • With a click ID as well, see the attribution rules below.

Responses for coupon problems (no click ID)#

SituationResult
No offer named and the coupon is valid on every offerRefused: offer_id required with coupon_code
Code does not existRefused: unknown coupon_code
Code paused or outside its validity windowRefused: coupon_code not active

When the postback also carries a valid click ID, an unknown or inactive code is simply ignored and the click attributes.

Who gets the credit: clicks vs. coupons#

The setting Coupon codes win over click ids on Settings → Conversion rules decides:

SettingPostback has a click ID and a valid couponPostback has only a coupon
Off (default)The click attributes; the code is recorded on the conversionThe coupon's partner is credited
OnThe coupon's partner is creditedThe coupon's partner is credited

A coupon-attributed conversion without a click gets a synthetic click of link type coupon for the coupon's partner, so it appears in reports like any other conversion. Coupon-only conversions have no country, device or sub IDs, so payout rules with those conditions do not match them.

Macros and reports#

  • Partner postbacks can include {coupon_code}.
  • The Coupon dimension in Reporting → Reports groups conversions by code.
  • E-mail ownership: a partner who first brought a customer's e-mail address keeps the credit for later conversions with the same email= on that offer within the attribution window. See How attribution works.
  • Deals and product feeds for partners: Deals & feeds in the partner portal.
